About the Church in Africa
The Republic of Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa. The official languages of Uganda are English and Swahili, although multiple other languages are spoken. Kitgum is located in the northern region of Uganda and has over 53,000 residents which includes many orphans as a result of the genocide in Southern Sudan. Kitgum is a very impoverished area & most of the residents are malnurished and have no access to education for their children or to learn a trade to provide for their families. The people of Kitgum are very responsive to the Gospel message.
In the fall of 2010 our first team traveled to Uganda on a vision trip to meet Ugandan nationals and investigate different areas where God might be leading us to plant a church. During the visit, the Lord made it perfectly clear that the area of Kitgum was to be the location for the RS7 church plant. Through our partnership with Field Coordinators, Rex and Melinda Guynn and Church Planter, Pastor Tony Omara, the church is growing as many are coming to know Christ and become His disciples.
We have purchased land for a Church and Community Resourde Center. A temporary shelter made of poles and thatch are in place where the church is meeting currently. The church started holding services December 18, 2011. There were 22 adults and 29 children in attendance. Currently the church has more than 100 adults and 75 children attending services. The women in the church have been organizing themselves into groups to clean and organize the church.
