It is with the deepest respect I write to you today. As a Christian and a pastor I honor you because of the offices you hold and I take seriously my role to pray for you as individuals who hold those offices. I know the First Amendment is dear to each of our hearts. Today I am exercising that right as I pen this letter. It is with a sense of fear that I write this letter, however, my fear of God usurps my fear of any repercussion for sharing this letter. On this Fourth of July, which is on a Sunday, we are celebrating 234 years of freedom as a nation. I have never felt more burdened or fearful for our country as I read this letter to our congregation this morning. I realize I cannot speak for each person here, but as the pastor of this church I have a responsibility to communicate what I believe to be truthful and what I believe the Bible teaches. It was the prophets of old who called the nation of Israel back to God. I am certainly not placing myself on that level but I do believe it is time for preachers to become prophets calling the Church and the nation to a renewed fear of God.
