Connect to Ministry through Service
The greatest joys in life come in giving yourself to a cause bigger than you. Jesus calls and compels us to go beyond ourselves by serving others, even the least among us. Ministry happens at First Baptist Church at the Mall because of volunteers and their desire to fulfill God's purpose for their lives.
"For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."--Ephesians 2:10
This incredible verse reveals two profound truths for every believer:
- God has a special purpose for your life--"to do good works, which God prepared in advance for you to do." These good works are your service.
- God designed you in a special way for that purpose--you "are God's workmanship." God uniquely shaped you to complete your special purpose.
As you prayerfully consider your place of service, ask yourself:
- What has God gifted me to do? God gives every believer certain gifts to be used in ministry.
- What am I passionate about? Don't ignore your interests. People excel at tasks they enjoy doing!
- What natural abilities, skills, or talents do I have? All of your abilities can be used for God's glory.
- Where does my personality best suit me to serve? Your personality affects how and where you will use your spiritual gifts and abilities.
- What experiences have I had? God never wastes an experience, so consider how you could use lessons learned from past spiritual, educational, ministerial, vocational, and even painful experiences.
You ministry of service will be most effective and fulfilling when you are using your spiritual gifts and abilities in the area of your heart's desire in a way that best expresses your personality and experience. Check out and sign up for service opportunities.
